At Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center, we have a refractive option for every patient that wants to get out of glasses or contacts. If you have been told you were not a candidate for LASIK, come see what our team can do for you with Refractive Lens Exchange (RLE).

RLE is the ultimate in visual freedom by reducing the need for reading and distance glasses. The procedure involves replacing your natural lens with a premium Intraocular Lens (IOL) allowing you to see both distance and close up.

The procedure for refractive lens exchange is virtually identical to cataract surgery. The difference is that in RLE, the lens being replaced is clear, rather than a cloudy lens due to a cataract. Many patients consider this as a preventative procedure earlier in life as it eliminates a patient's need for cataract surgery later in life. Patients typically can return to normal activities within a few days of surgery.

With several financing options available, surgery to correct your vision has never been more affordable. Learn more about our various financing options below.

Who Is A Candidate and What are the Symptoms?

Refractive lens exchange may be a better option than LASIK or reading vision correction surgery for people with presbyopia and high hyperopia (farsightedness).

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, you may be a candidate for Refractive Lens Exchange:

  • Difficulty driving at night
  • Struggling to read and see objects up close
  • Frequent changes in glasses and contact prescriptions
  • Extreme farsightedness
  • An early cataracts diagnosis

Affordability and Financing

At Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center, we want our patients to achieve the best vision possible. Vision correction procedures like RLE are considered elective procedures and are not covered by insurance; however, it may be tax deductible depending on your filing status. In addition, many patients choose to pay for their procedure using their tax refund. We offer several payment options to suit your needs:

  • Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA): You can save up to 30% by using tax-free dollars to pay for your vision correction surgery. Many employers and banks offer an FSA or Health Savings Account.
  • Financing: Chesapeake Eye Care and Laser Center is pleased to offer affordable deferred interest and extended payment plans. Click here to learn more about CareCredit.
  • Credit Cards: Many patients opt to pay for their procedure using a personal credit card. This may be a good option, especially if you have a card that carries a low interest rate or offers points and other rewards.

Our staff will be happy to review the best financing options for you. Please contact us today at 410-571-8733 with any questions.
